This very famous passive subwoofer of yesteryear has heaps of good reviews.  It requires an amplifier to make it active.

Because of it’s cylindrical design it could easily be camouflaged in a corner.  As the model 1225 implies, it has a 12″ driver and goes down to 25hz.
